Livermore California

Hard-working, highly intelligent, and family oriented. These are the residents of Livermore, located in Alameda County, California. Just east San Francisco via the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, Livermore is a part of "East Bay" area. With this close proximity, Livermore is a tranquil yet active community with easy access to one of the most vibrant cities in the world.

The city is perhaps best known as the home to Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), which is a major employer to the region. The lab is operated by the University of California for the U.S. Department of Energy and is one of the world's premier scientific centers. Here, scientists break new ground in the fields of environmental science, biomedicine and energy. But this is hardly all there is to Livermore.

With approximately 77,000 people who call Livermore home, the average age here is 35. Median household income is around $74,000 with an approximate home value of $460,000. The city has been named by CNN Money as a "Hot Town/Best Places to Live", and it's truly little wonder. One of the richest contributors to both employment and quality of life in Alameda County is education. From primary education to universities, many of the school systems here are of the highest caliber. With recognizable names like California State University-Hayward and Mills College, perhaps the greatest contributor to technology, business, and culture has been neighboring University of California Berkeley.

And while people here are well-read and up to date on current events, they overwhelmingly enjoy taking advantage of the numerous outdoor activities that the area has to offer. Recreational activities abound with two public and two private golf courses, and sports leagues for youth and adults. You can take a unique day trip to the Orchid Ranch, one of the most colorful attractions in the valley, featuring hundreds of varieties of orchids in bloom. There's plenty of camping at Lake Del Valle, or simply pack a picnic lunch and cast your rod and reel for big trout, large and small mouth bass or a variety of pan fish. You can hike and bike a variety of terrain, including nearby Discovery Peak. Just south of Livermore, this is the area's highest mountain at 3,841 feet.. Women can join in the annual Cinderella Classic, a decades old women-only bicycling event that travels through Livermore on its 64-mile route.

For those who want a reward for their efforts, you can even bike to one of the fifteen wineries located in the Livermore Valley. And, oh, the wineries! The region calls itself "California's Original Wine Country" and benefits from the valley's ideal climate and soils. Wine making is a vocation that spans many generations here, and the peaceful environment offers a welcome retreat for visitors. Anyone who has visited even one winery in their life can attest to the serene environment of sampling a vintner's efforts. With a glass of wine in your hand, overlooking row after row of grape vines, feeling the sun on your skin and the breeze through your hair, for a moment, at least, your cares will melt away.

You will find an abundance of cultural activities here. Sample "Dinner with Tosca" or "Madame Butterfly" at the Livermore Valley Opera. Or take part in the Livermore-Yotsukaido Sister City Organization Dinner and Concert, complete with Yaki Soba and ceremonial drums. The First Presbyterian Church at 4th and L streets presents some impressive offerings, from classical string quartet chamber music to performances by the Contra Costa Chorale group.

If you're a sports fanatic, you can cheer on the San Francisco Giants, who have more Hall of Fame members and won more pennants than any other National League baseball team. The American League's Oakland Athletics have themselves won fifteen pennants and nine world championships. Not to be outdone, the San Francisco 49ers made history by becoming the first team to win five Superbowl rings. And of course, the team that everyone outside of Alameda County loves to hate, the Oakland Raiders. Just next door to the Raiders' venue, you can catch a game with the Golden State Warriors who, along with the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks are charter members of the NBA.

Livermore, California is a peaceful place with something to excite each member of your family. If you are thinking about moving to Livermore, our relocation packet is yours for the asking!
